Driven by extreme grief on her death, Shah Jahan decided to build Taj Mahal on the banks of Yamuna at Agra.Using a mixture of Persian architecture in Hindustanis settings, Taj Mahal involved lakhs of laborers, skilled craftsmen and masonary. It almost took a decade to build the Taj Mahal. The monument has some of the best layouts and artwork on the walls and ceilings. Taj Mahal is an excellent work of art using marble.
Having stood the test of time for many centuries, Taj Mahal today has to stand up to ecological problems compounded by the industrialization of the area and the pollutant being dumped into the Yamuna.However the Government of India is taking steps to preserve this National Heritage which is a tourist icon today.
